A Masterpiece on the Harbour: Reflecting on our Sydney Tour
In April 2026, we took a wonderful group of travellers away to Sydney for a highly anticipated 5-day escape. It was a spectacular five days filled with world-class entertainment, historic sights, beautiful weather, and incredible camaraderie.
One passenger summed up the experience beautifully:
“The main reason I took the trip was to see the Phantom of the Opera on the harbour, the location of the seats was excellent. The other activities were a bonus! Lunch at the CYCA, the sunset dinner cruise, and the Opera House tour were all excellent.”
To give you a true taste of the journey, our brilliant tour guide, Robyn, kept a detailed diary of our time away. Grab a cuppa and enjoy this look back at our magnificent Sydney getaway.
Days 1 & 2: Art, History, and Harbour Views
The excitement was infectious among our travellers as we boarded our plane to Sydney, ready for our Phantom getaway. Upon arrival, our wonderful driver was waiting to whisk us off to the Art Gallery of NSW to view a fabulous exhibition of Indigenous art. We finished our very first day with a wander around the fascinating Hyde Park Barracks, where the ghosts of convicts past have been known to make their presence felt.
Our first full day in the beautiful harbour city saw us take a wonderful cruise across to Taronga Park Zoo, where we had free time to wander through the lovely gardens and marvel at the wide variety of animals. The stunning weather continued as we headed for a brief visit to North Head and down to Manly for a late afternoon stroll, a quick swim or paddle for some, and fish and chips together on the beach.
Day 3: The Main Event
Thursday dawned warm and sunny, perfect for our visit and tour of the Royal Botanic Gardens. Our wonderful guides gave us a very informative talk, and the many keen gardeners among us really enjoyed the amazing variety of plants.
The afternoon was left open for everyone to choose their own adventure—whether resting up for the big evening ahead, or exploring the Sydney CBD’s beautiful architecture and shopping hubs, like the iconic QVB building.
After an early dinner, we all had a chance to change into our finery, ready for the main event of our trip, Phantom of the Opera on Sydney Harbour. Our seats were absolutely amazing, positioned right in the centre of the stage, and the evening weather was perfect for such a stunning performance. The soaring music, the spectacular fireworks, and the legendary story made this a truly memorable, bucket-list experience. The buzzing comments from everyone as we made our way back to the hotel really underlined what an amazing night we had all enjoyed.
Days 4 & 5: Coastal Charm and Royal Treatment
The next morning, we set off for a scenic tour of the southern beaches, taking time for a stroll at Bondi and a visit to beautiful Coogee and Bronte beaches. Lunch made us feel like yachting royalty as we dined at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia. The amazing coastal view outside, paired with the historic Sydney to Hobart trophies inside, made this one of the absolute highlights of the trip.
On our final morning, we visited the Sydney Opera House to enjoy a very insightful guided tour of this world-famous architectural marvel. Heading back to the airport for our flight home, we marvelled at how many amazing experiences we had managed to cram into a short space of time—and, most importantly, how many wonderful new friends we had made along the way.
At Christians, we believe the best travel experiences come when you have the time to slow down, connect, and let someone else handle the logistics. From our signature home pick-up service to our carefully selected central seating at world-class events, we take care of it all.
