Remembering and Rejoicing on our Canberra & Bright Tour
In April, we had the absolute privilege of taking an incredible group of travellers on an unforgettable escorted tour to Canberra and the High Country.
Together, we experienced a quiet reflection at the Australian War Memorial, explored the rich history of our nation’s capital, and savoured beautiful regional food and wine through historic Beechworth and Tahbilk Estate. We topped it all off by soaking up the festive energy and golden autumn canopy at the Bright Autumn Festival.
But beyond the stunning sights, it was the camaraderie, shared laughs, and new friendships that made this trip so deeply special.
Here is a look back at the journey through the eyes of our wonderful tour guide, Robyn, and some of the passengers who made the trip so memorable.
A Moving ANZAC Day in the Capital
Our journey to Canberra felt like far more than just a holiday. Arriving in the capital, the city looked spectacular, dressed in its rich autumn colours. Watching the sun set over Lake Burley Griffin from Mount Ainslie Lookout was the perfect, peaceful introduction to our tour.
The undeniable heart of the trip was ANZAC Day. Being among thousands of Australians at the Australian War Memorial Dawn Service in the early-morning darkness was incredibly moving. There was a profound sense of pride, reflection, and unity as we honoured those who served.
For our group, the afternoon held an even deeper honour. During the Last Post Ceremony, passenger Brian and our brilliant coach driver, Andrew, were chosen to represent Christians’ Travel and lay a wreath.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be representing our tour group… It was an honour and privilege to lay the wreath with Andrew. This is a memory that I will treasure and carry with me forever.” – Brian (Passenger)
“The Dawn Service was most moving, but the Last Post was even more so. The organisation of the tour was fantastic, from accommodation, meals and day trips. This whole tour exceeded my expectations.” – Sue (Passenger)
History, Local Flavours & High Country Magic
Beyond the capital, our journey took us through country New South Wales and Victoria, where every day offered a new taste of country hospitality:
-
Sweet Stops: We couldn’t resist the fresh aromas at the Junee Licorice & Chocolate Factory.
-
Historic Lunches: We enjoyed a relaxed lunch at Last St Brewery in historic Beechworth.
-
Wine & Cheese: We sampled delicious local produce at Milawa Cheese Company and soaked up the atmosphere at the iconic Tahbilk Estate, surrounded by stunning wetlands and autumn vines.
We finished our journey on a high note in the Victorian High Country, experiencing the vibrant energy of the Bright Autumn Festival. Wandering through streets lined with golden leaves, fresh mountain air, and cheerful market stalls created a warm, uplifting end to our travels.
First-Time Memories & Lifelong Friendships
At Christians, we strive to make every journey seamless, but it’s our passengers who truly bring the tour to life.
“As a first-time traveller with Christians, this tour surpassed my expectations. It was great to travel with a terrific group. Our coach driver did a splendid job, and our guide did fantastic getting us organised. I cannot wait to do another journey with you in the future.” – Zoe (Passenger).
To the wonderful group who made this trip possible: thank you for the brilliant company, the countless laughs, and the beautiful memories we now all share.
