COVID-19: Media Statement

A media statement from Christians Bus Company – Bendigo

On Thursday 13th August Christians Bus Company was advised that a Bendigo bus driver had tested positive for COVID-19. The bus driver last worked on Monday 10th August.

The affected bus had been cleaned and sanitised before and after the service on Monday 10th.

Since the beginning of the global health crisis, Christians Bus Company have adopted a proactive approach to minimise the risk of infection to employees, passengers and the community. This includes additional cleaning and sanitisation and regular fumigation of buses, provision of PPE, social distancing in the workplace, closed lunchrooms and ongoing education about personal hygiene and identification of COVID-19 symptoms.

As a result of the positive test, the workplace and the affected bus have undergone a deep clean. We have also consulted with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to confirm that only people who had close contact with the driver are at risk of infection.

In response to COVID-19, our buses now have a restricted bus drivers area, with public access via the rear door only. As a result, passengers are not considered close contacts.

Finally, we understand that this is a challenging time for all our employees and the broader community. If you have any concerns and would like additional information, please contact the COVID-19 Hotline on 1800 675 398.
